Zappos Online Shoe Store Hit By Hackers. Can We Have an Honest Talk NOW - About Data Protection?

by NetLib

When the giant online shoe retailer, Zappos.com, was hit by hackers, left exposed were more than 24 million customer’s names, emails and billing addresses, phone numbers and the last four digits of their credit cards.

While Zappos.com claims it was not a crisis for its customers because the hackers didn’t get full credit card numbers or passwords, it’s not only a reminder of, as this article from ABC News states “…what a pain it can be for companies and their customers” but how companies are not taking all the necessary precautions to ensure that ALL of their customers sensitive data is protected.

Data Protection is the single most critical business issue today.

“Perception is reality” is not the case here.  By protecting what companies “perceive” to be the most sensitive of customer’s data rather than ALL of their data, such as emails, usernames, home addresses,  it leaves unwanted room for hackers to find a way in.

In an era when identity theft is the #1 growing concern in the world, there are tangible solutions available today to help companies shore up their security. Enter Whole Database Encryption.

Whole database encryption has one simple purpose: to make databases and backups unusable if they are stolen, copied, downloaded, lost, or otherwise compromised. NetLib’s Encryptionizer Whole Database solution is designed to do just this – protect all customer sensitive data transparently.

So the real question is: Why make it any easier for hackers to access any of your customer’s sensitive data? When you go to bed at night you don’t leave your doors unlocked for would be thieves, right? Lock down all your customer’s doors then everyone can sleep better at night – except the media – but really we don’t need to give them anymore headlines to report on!
